governance review serviceACEVO's governance review service provides a confidential, comprehensive, and robust assessment of the effectiveness of third sector boards, chairs and CEOs. It was developed by ACEVO and Jeito, a technology company founded in 2001 to provide business solutions that improve corporate governance. Code ComplianceThe third sector Code of Governance, published in 2005, sets clear standards of governance for the sector. It recommends that all boards regularly review their effectiveness, and use the results to improve the board performance. “The board should ensure that at least every two years, it sets aside time to reflect on its own performance and functioning as a team. The results of these appraisals should be used to make necessary changes and improvements, to inform the creation of appropriate training programmes, and to guide board member renewal and recruitment.” Raising standards of governance and board performance is a key concern for many chief executives in the sector: - Governance is second only to funding in keeping CEOs awake at night

Our ServiceOur service comprises three stages, supervised by a senior member of staff at ACEVO. - An initial meeting with the Chair and/or CEO to explain the review process and finalise the assessments
- A confidential online questionnaire for Board Members and the SMT, taking no more than 1 hour
- Feedback sessions in which acevo presents the results of the assessments to the Chair and, if desired, directly to the CEO and Board Members
