The voluntary sector is going through an unprecedented period of upheaval and change. Budgets are under ever increasing pressure, funding opportunities and criteria are changing and many long established practices are disappearing. Against this backdrop, CEOs have to try to steer a course to secure the future of the organisation – or in some cases find a new direction to take the organisation; find new sources of funding; embrace new ways of working and at the same time maintain staff and morale and minimise the pain to those who work with, support or rely on the organisation.
Many CEOs are finding themselves outside their own comfort zones in some or all of these areas and face issues in which they feel themselves ill-equipped in terms of experience, expertise or both.
