Policy: Get involved as a Non-member

We carry out our policy work in partnership with a wide variety of individuals and organisations. Here are a few examples of who we have worked with and how:

  • Think tanks. In 2009 we ran a series of workshops with Demos and in Control focusing on individual budgets in social care, alongside an accompanying report. We facilitated research on the third sector for Policy Exchange. Earlier in the year we wrote a chapter for a publication on the third sector by the Smith Institute. In 2008 we started working with ippr North to look at the new central-local relationship. In 2007 we facilitated discussions between ACEVO members and the Centre for Social Justice as part of the preparations for the Breakthrough Britain report.
  • Private sector companies. In 2009 we ran a series of roundtables with Serco for third- and private-sector providers of welfare to work services to discuss the transition to the DWP’s new set of contracts for job-seekers. In 2008 we jointly commissioned research with A4e on key ingredients to successful private-third sector partnerships. In the same year CCLA, Herbert Smith, A4e, BTSchroders, I&DeA, and Bank of America supported and hosted the successful ACEVO Lecture Series 2008, with speakers including James Purnell, Hazel Blears, Trevor Philips and Francis Maude.
  • Academia. In 2009 we ran a joint seminar with the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) on the impact of individual budgets on the third sector, accompanied by a publication. We are also a key partner of the Third Sector Research Centre, hosted by the University of Birmingham and the University of Southampton.
  • Representative bodies. We continue to work closely with other third sector umbrella bodies such as NCVO, CAFIoF and CFDG, collaborating on a wide range of issues from Gift Aid to good governance. In 2006 we held a joint All-Sector Summit with the CBI and National Consumer Council, attended by the then Prime Minister Tony Blair.

We are always looking for new ideas and new partnerships. If you would like to discuss an idea you have for working with ACEVO's policy team, get in contact with us here.
