Step by Step
Job Title: Chair of the Board of Trustees
Location: Aldershot, Hampshire
Closing Date: 4 April 2014
Step by Step is a highly focused specialist charity – Their ambition is based simply on a desire to help as many disadvantaged young people as possible. This is coupled with a belief, supported by unquestionable evidence, that Step by Step’s staged accommodation model and support programmes deliver great outcomes. Step by Step’s focus is on empowering homeless young people and those facing adversity. They do this through providing a range of accommodation options and support services, set into a progressive step by step programme that encourages and motivates young people to achieve their full potential. They focus on disadvantaged 16-25 year olds and offer advice and support services to 11-15 year olds, aimed at preventing early stage issues developing into homelessness.
In the 2010/11 year, Step by Step embarked on an ambitious five-year growth strategy that aims to triple the number of bed spaces provided and double the number of young people they support. They are on track to achieve their growth strategy and are seeking a capable and proven leader with strong experience of overseeing growing organisations and an appreciation of the service environment they work in. You’ll be leading a committed and established Board and Chief Executive but will be as credible outside the organisation, with their key partners and stakeholders, as you are internally. You’ll have the presence and natural authority required to lead Step by Step through the next phase of our development.
Whether your background is in the private, public or not for profit sector, you’ll bring vision, energy and creative flair, along with commercial acumen and fresh thinking. Through your commitment to addressing the issues facing young people who are homeless or facing adversity, you’ll inspire Step by Step to think differently about their future, what they do and how they do it. In return, this unpaid role offers an unrivalled opportunity to turn Step by Step’s bold ambitions into reality.
