ACEVO and Community

Following the announcement in September last year of the successful bid for the Union Modernisation Fund, ACEVO and the trade union Community are setting their exciting new joint project in motion. The project - Beyond the workplace: Community in the community – has been designed to specifically support vulnerable workers in South Yorkshire and the East Midlands and aims to develop relationships and joint activities with the voluntary and community sector in these two regions.
Key to this project is the recognition of the shared values of the trade union movement and the third sector. As such, the joint activities will respond to the needs of both third sector organisations’ service users, and vulnerable workers within Community’s existing membership. ACEVO and Community see the project as a fantastic opportunity to broaden the understanding that trade unions and organisations operating within the third sector have of each other’s activities. In order to strengthen this relationship, the project will also develop a joint training programme and a toolkit highlighting best practice in joint working.
The project will be led by Community’s Emma Wallis, working with project officers Lucy Hopley and Mark Kaye and in close partnership with ACEVO North’s Director, Jenny Berry.
The project will begin later this month with a preliminary research and consultation exercise. ACEVO and Community are looking to team up with voluntary and community sector organisations in South Yorkshire and the East Midlands whose activities are concerned with vulnerable workers and employment rights.
