CEOs meet to discuss defending the sector from negative media coverage
29/11/2010

Chief executives and senior managers from the UK's largest fundraising charities, including Cancer Research UK, Amnesty International and Unicef, met last week to discuss what can be done to defend the sector against negative and inaccurate media coverage.

The meeting was called in response to Stephen Bubb's open letter to chief executives following the Newsnight feature on face-to-face fundraising. In the letter, Bubb called for more active involvement from chief executives to defend the sector against media attacks.

The delegates agreed that the ImpACT Coalition would work with the Media Trust to identify and train spokespeople to represent the sector on specific issues, such as fundraising techniques, admistration costs and salaries.

If you would like to nominate yourself as a spokesperson, please contact Liam Cranley.

ImpACT member seminar announced - 9th December
17/11/2010
The ImpACT Coalition will be hosting a member seminar on Thursday 9th December, 2.30pm to 5pm in Central London (venue TBA). The seminar is your chance to network with other ImpACT members, hear from experts in the field of accountability and performance, and influence the direction of the organisation.

David Ramsden, Chief Executive of BBC Children in Need, will share his experiences of dealing with negative media coverage, and talk about the need for all charities to defend themselves when challenged in the media.

David will be joined by Ian McQuillan, Head of Communications at PFRA and former Editor of Professional Fundraising magazine. Ian will talk about proven tactics for handling difficult media stories.

This will be followed by a group discussion about how the sector can best respond to negative and inaccurate media coverage. The discussion will help shape our Media Response Unit, which aims to challenge such media coverage of charities and their work.

NPC publication looks at how well charities communicate their impact
22/09/2010

But NPC's latest paper takes a closer look at how charities communicate their impact, and finds that the reality is quite different.

Does your impact have impact? New blog from the Coalition
09/06/2010
As a matter of transparency, all charities should host their annual report on their websites, but let’s be honest, not many people trawl through these reports, so it might be better to start elsewhere.
