Vicky Browning, CEO

Vicky joined ACEVO as CEO in January 2017 after nearly seven years as director at CharityComms, the membership network for communications professionals in UK charities.

A former magazine journalist, editor and publisher, Vicky worked at Haymarket Publishing, the UK's largest privately owned publishing company for 16 years during the nineties and noughties. She was publishing director of a host of business titles including Third Sector and ad-industry bible Campaign, as well as spending two years in New York heading the launch team of internet marketing title Revolution US. Vicky then enjoyed six years as an independent publishing consultant.

Vicky’s role is to work with the ACEVO team and trustees to support, empower and encourage our sector leaders in their ambition to create change.


Jenny Berry, Director of Leadership and Governance


Jenny Berry was appointed as Director of ACEVO North and Leadership Development in April 2008, to lead on the expansion of ACEVO’s influence and support services in the regions. Jenny also leads on Professional and Leadership Development for ACEVO, which includes developing our suite of leadership courses, advising members with mentoring and coaching arrangements, and supporting members through any difficulties or crises they may have.

Previously, Jenny’s 25 year career in the Third Sector took her to the role of CEO of the CTA (Community Transport Association) a UK wide membership body based in the Manchester, with over 2500 members across the UK.

Jenny is an active volunteer for 2 charities and remains in touch with the world of community transport as a Trustee of Community Transport UK Ltd. She is also a Board member of the Three Rings charity. Jenny is champion lead of the Leadership 2020 Commission and also sat on the ACEVO Governance Commission. 

Pete Johnson, Head of Business Development


As Head of Business Development, Pete is responsible for managing income generation for Acevo and Acevo members. Over the past 12 years Pete has worked for corporates, start-ups and charities. He brings a wealth of experience in the areas of sales and marketing, innovation, events, sponsorship and corporate partnerships.

With continual big-picture thinking and strategic development, Pete uses skills that are more commonly found in a start-up environment, to grow business for Acevo and corporates that wish to work in the charity and voluntary sector.


Christina Heap, Head of Membership


Christina has more than ten years’ experience in developing memberships for charity and public sector senior leaders.  

She is attracted by the opportunity to support such a huge variety of inspiring and dynamic social leaders focused on making positive change. 

Strengthening our regional, peer-to-peer engagement is one of her top priorities – as we recognise that this is something that Members really value.


Kristiana Wrixon, Head of Research (on maternity leave)


Kristiana is responsible for researching the issues that mean the most to ACEVO members and for developing policies that will enable charity leaders to drive forward positive change in their organisations and communities

Kristiana is passionate about civil society and has worked in voluntary and paid, frontline and policy positions within the sector for 8 years, primarily in the fields of suicide prevention and violence against women and girls. Prior to that she worked in the police service for two years. Her previous achievements include setting up and manging the National Stalking Helpline, and working on the successful campaign to criminalise stalking in England and Wales.

Kristiana brings a frontline understanding of the daily challenges faced by senior leaders in the charity sector and a commitment to listening and working with members in order to formulate policy that helps them lead more effectively. 


Simon Long-Price, Head of Press


Simon joined ACEVO in July 2015. Prior to this he spent the majority of his career in journalism, mostly at the BBC where he was a senior broadcast journalist. Simon is responsible for maintaining ACEVO’s media profile, ensuring that the ACEVO voice is heard in the sector press and national print and broadcast media. He is also responsible for ensuring that the membership is kept informed of developments within the sector, consulting with members on issues of importance and delivering content likely to be of interest to members and the wider sector audience. Simon keeps bees and once walked on the Thames’ riverbed without the aid of an aqualung.


Sophie Thompson, Events Manager


Sophie has over ten years of experience within the arts, entertainment and charity sector. She brings her organisational skills to ACEVO to create and manage a programme of events that enable our Members to connect with each other, develop their skills and share their work. Sophie is inspired by ACEVO’s mission to support and empower CEO’s in the charity sector and believes that a strong events programme is a key part of that work. 


Jennifer Sowerby, Salesforce Administrator 


As Salesforce Administrator, Jennifer is responsible for managing and developing the membership database at ACEVO. She ensures the systems we use for joining and renewing memberships are running smoothly and provides the ACEVO team with insights into our membership base. Jennifer has over fifteen years experience working in IT with customer relationship management systems as a consultant and as part of in-house teams in corporate and membership organisations. She is enthusiastic about harnessing technological innovation to help the team work smarter and better serve our members.


Kuziva Punungwe, Membership Officer 


 As Membership Officer, Kuziva provides support to the Head of Membership by engaging with our members, handling a range of member communications and providing administrative support to the ACEVO team. Kuziva is committed towards providing effective and engaging communications with our members and increasing our membership base. 

Natalie Westerman, Office Manager 


Natalie organises our office, our IT, and helps manage our events programme. She is often the first point of contact for our members. She has previously worked for Channel Five, and run her own card design business. Natalie keeps the whole organisation running with a heady mix of professional expertise and positive spirit.

Jan Costis, Finance Officer


Jan looks after ACEVO’s accounting, and has done so through thick and thin for over twenty years.

Karen Horan, Senior  Events Executive (on maternity leave) 


Karen organises ACEVO’s programme of programmes and events, including the annual conference.
