Vicky Browning, CEO
Vicky joined ACEVO as CEO in January 2017 after nearly seven years as director at CharityComms, the membership network for communications professionals in UK charities.
A former magazine journalist, editor and publisher, Vicky worked at Haymarket Publishing, the UK's largest privately owned publishing company for 16 years during the nineties and noughties. She was publishing director of a host of business titles including Third Sector and ad-industry bible Campaign, as well as spending two years in New York heading the launch team of internet marketing title Revolution US. Vicky then enjoyed six years as an independent publishing consultant.
Vicky’s role is to work with the ACEVO team and trustees to support, empower and encourage our sector leaders in their ambition to create change.
Asheem Singh, Director of Public Policy
Asheem Singh is a leading authority on social leadership, social innovation and social change; a commentator, broadcaster, and author and a leading advocate for political change that places civil society at its centre.
From 2013-16 he was Director of Public Policy at ACEVO where he led on ACEVO's overall public policy platform, consultancy and campaigns output, and led specifc work on new markets, innovation, public services and social and economic inequality.
He has authored several publications and written for several journals and newspapers, including The Guardian, as a regular contributor, The Spectator and The Scotsman. He comments regularly on charity and social enterprise matters in Third Sector Magazine, Civil Society Magazine and Charity Times and broadcasts regularly on national and international radio and television outlets.
He was director of policy and strategy at the UK's first venture philanthropy fund, Impetus Trust, and was deputy director at London think tank ResPublica where he authored three books on social change including 2010's highly influential monograph on social entrepreneurship, 'The Venture Society.' He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of the Arts, and was a co-recipient of Prospect Magazine's 'One to Watch' award. He has advised UK politicians including Boris Johnson and Nick Hurd and has worked for think tanks including Policy Exchange and the Centre for Social Justice. Asheem has a degree in Law from the University of Oxford, where he was the David Blank scholar.
Lew Hodges, Chief Operating Officer
Lew is responsible for managing and developing ACEVO’s business and internal organisation.
Lew’s career has largely been spent among charities in the arts and higher education, most recently with the Leadership Foundation for Higher Education and previously with the Arts Council, Arts & Business, and the National Theatre. He brings a commitment to positive change and he will be seeking to further develop the quality and responsiveness of ACEVO’s activity, as well as providing stability and renewal in a rapidly developing not-for-profit enterprise.
Jenny Berry, Director of Leadership and ACEVO North
Jenny Berry was appointed as Director of ACEVO North and Leadership Development in April 2008, to lead on the expansion of ACEVO’s influence and support services in the regions. Jenny also leads on Professional and Leadership Development for ACEVO, which includes developing our suite of leadership courses, advising members with mentoring and coaching arrangements, and supporting members through any difficulties or crises they may have.
Previously, Jenny’s 25 year career in the Third Sector took her to the role of CEO of the CTA (Community Transport Association) a UK wide membership body based in the Manchester, with over 2500 members across the UK.
Jenny is an active volunteer for 2 charities and remains in touch with the world of community transport as a Trustee of Community Transport UK Ltd. She is also a Board member of the Three Rings charity. Jenny is champion lead of the Leadership 2020 Commission and also sat on the ACEVO Governance Commission.
Mark is the Director of ACEVO Solutions, ACEVO's consultancy arm. Mark leads the ACEVO Solutions team in the development and delivery of ACEVO consultancy offers. Mark supports voluntary sector organisations build their capacity through business development, bid support, and training.
Christina Heap, Head of Membership
Christina has more than ten years’ experience in developing memberships for charity and public sector senior leaders.
She is attracted by the opportunity to support such a huge variety of inspiring and dynamic social leaders focused on making positive change.
Strengthening our regional, peer-to-peer engagement is one of her top priorities – as we recognise that this is something that Members really value.
