Vicky Browning, CEO
Vicky joined ACEVO as CEO in January 2017 after nearly seven years as director at CharityComms, the membership network for communications professionals in UK charities.
A former magazine journalist, editor and publisher, Vicky worked at Haymarket Publishing, the UK's largest privately owned publishing company for 16 years during the nineties and noughties. She was publishing director of a host of business titles including Third Sector and ad-industry bible Campaign, as well as spending two years in New York heading the launch team of internet marketing title Revolution US. Vicky then enjoyed six years as an independent publishing consultant.
Vicky’s role is to work with the ACEVO team and trustees to support, empower and encourage our sector leaders in their ambition to create change.
Jenny Berry, director of leadership and governance
Jenny Berry was appointed as Director of ACEVO North in April 2008, to lead on the expansion of ACEVO’s influence and support services in the regions. Jenny also leads on Professional and Leadership Development for ACEVO, which includes developing our suite of leadership courses, advising members with mentoring and coaching arrangements, and supporting members through any difficulties or crises they may have.
Previously, Jenny’s 25 year career in the Third Sector took her to the role of CEO of the CTA (Community Transport Association) a UK wide membership body based in Manchester, with over 2500 members across the UK.
Jenny is a trustee for two charities, one local and one UK charity, and is a member of the Charity Governance Code steering group.
Anne Wallis, head of membership and marketing
Anne joined ACEVO in February 2018 after 11 years overseeing membership and marketing at an international not-for-profit membership club.
She has a wealth of experience with a career spanning the charity sector (including Barnardo's and the Children's Society), Westminster (as assistant director of strategic policy and communications at the Office for the Deputy Prime Minister), and the private sector (with communications consultancies Ruder Finn and Westminster Strategy).
With members being at the heart of everything ACEVO does, Anne is responsible for leading the membership team, growing the ACEVO community and enthusiastically engaging directly with ACEVO members.
Pete Johnson, head of business development
Pete is responsible for managing income generation for ACEVO and ACEVO members. Over the past 12 years Pete has worked for corporates, start-ups and charities. He brings a wealth of experience in the areas of sales and marketing, innovation, events, sponsorship and corporate partnerships.
With continual big-picture thinking and strategic development, Pete uses skills that are more commonly found in a start-up environment, to grow business for ACEVO and corporates that wish to work in the charity and voluntary sector.
Kristiana Wrixon, head of policy
Kristiana is responsible for developing ACEVO’s policy strategy and ensuring its effective implementation. She also heads up ACEVO’s external communications and research work.
ACEVO’s key policy focuses are; fair regulation, improving commissioning practices, increasing diversity and inclusion, and protecting charities’ right to campaign. Kristiana has also been working with charities and government partners to address concerns raised in the media earlier this year about safeguarding and to help leaders create safe organisational cultures.
Kristiana joined ACEVO from Suzy Lamplugh Trust where she was policy and services manager. At Suzy Lamplugh Trust she established the National Stalking Helpline and was involved in the successful campaign for the implementation of a new stalking law. Prior to joining the voluntary sector she worked as a civilian office in Devon and Cornwall police. She has volunteered as a listener with suicide prevention charities Samaritans and Maytree.
Melanie Jeanton, membership administrator
Melanie joined ACEVO in May 2018 and is responsible for all aspects of membership administration. She has over 20 years of customer service experience including membership administration in both profit and non-profit sectors. Natalie Westerman, membership and marketing manager
Natalie joined ACEVO in April 2016 as the office manager, she now works in the membership and marketing team and also assists with the events programme. She has previously worked for Channel Five, and run her own card design business. Natalie is often the first point of contact for our members and assists them with a heady mix of professional expertise and positive spirit.
Nabila Juma, events coordinator
Nabila is responsible for delivering ACEVO’s events programme. She has had five years event experience spanning from live entertainment shows and award ceremonies, to most recently working with a non-profit community of SMEs and entrepreneurs managing an extensive events calendar coordinating dinners and panel discussions for partners such as UBS and KPMG, breakfasts at the House of Lords and launching a roadshow of large scale networking and learning events across the UK. Heloisa Righetto, communications officer
Heloisa joined ACEVO in November 2018 as communications officer. Passionate about using social media and online content to create communities, she worked as an editor for trend forecasting website WGSN and contributed to travel blogs and websites. In 2015 she co-founded a feminist digital platform which includes Youtube live broadcasts as well as podcasts, texts and social media. She was a communications volunteer at Latin American Women’s Aid before joining ACEVO. Her MA research focused on digital activism, more specifically on the emotional impact of feminist hashtags.
Jennifer Sowerby, salesforce administrator
Jennifer is responsible for managing and developing the membership database at ACEVO. She ensures the systems we use for joining and renewing memberships are running smoothly and provides the ACEVO team with insights into our membership base. Jennifer has over 15 years experience working in IT with customer relationship management systems as a consultant and as part of in-house teams in corporate and membership organisations. She is enthusiastic about harnessing technological innovation to help the team work smarter and better serve our members.
Maisie Hulbert, policy officer
Maisie joined ACEVO in November 2018 as a graduate on the Charityworks programme. She assists on all aspects of policy at ACEVO, researching and reporting on the issues that affect our members and the charities they lead, and pursuing policy change in line with their needs. Maisie studied music for four years, and also works as a freelance singer with a particular passion for educational arts and outreach. She was a founding member of Sing Inside, an organisation taking singing workshops into UK prisons, and she now runs and develops the programme as it expands across the country.
Jan Costis, finance officer
Jan looks after ACEVO’s accounting, and has done so through thick and thin for over 20 years.
David McMahon-Cagney, admin assistant
David joined ACEVO in March 2018 after several years of working in the charity sector. Previously David also worked for out-placement firms, overseeing a number of offices where he had oversight of office maintenance and managing relationships with key clients. Experienced in managing front of house functions and reception teams, David is a strong communicator and knows how to get the best out of people.
