ACEVO names its new Chief Executive

The charity leaders’ network ACEVO has appointed Vicky Browning as its new Chief Executive. She joins the organisation from CharityComms, the membership network for communications professionals in UK charities, where she’s been director since March 2010.

During that time, Vicky has championed CharityComms’ mission to improve communications standards and practice in the third sector, while increasing membership from 30 to more than 500 charities and quadrupling income.

A former magazine journalist, editor and publisher, Vicky worked at Haymarket Publishing, the UK’s largest privately owned publishing company for 16 years during the nineties and noughties. She was publishing director of a host of business titles including Third Sector and ad-industry bible Campaign, as well as spending two years in New York heading the launch team of internet marketing title Revolution US.

Vicky then enjoyed six years as an independent publishing consultant, offering product development, marketing, PR and management consultancy to a range of clients, before joining CharityComms.

Vicky said: “I’m genuinely excited to be joining ACEVO, the charity leaders’ network, at a time when the role of charities, and the need for inspirational leaders, is more vital than ever. I’m looking forward to working with the ACEVO team and trustees to support, empower and encourage our sector leaders in their ambition to create change.”

Vicky will join ACEVO on January 30, 2017.

ACEVO Interim Chief Executive Asheem Singh said: “We are delighted that Vicky Browning has agreed to lead ACEVO for the long term. Vicky’s record of achievements and skill-set make her very well placed to help our members navigate the turbulent waters of our times. It has been a privilege to have been Interim Chief Executive of such a fantastic organisation and I know everyone in the ACEVO movement will look forward to working with Vicky.”

ACEVO Chairman Paul Farmer said: “ACEVO’s Board’s Appointments Committee interviewed a number of excellent candidates for Chief Executive. They displayed a wide range of skills and abilities but Vicky Browning was our unanimous choice. I’m delighted that she has accepted our offer to her. She brings a strong combination of charity understanding and commercial acumen.”

CharityComms Chairman John Grounds said:“Vicky Browning’s achievements with CharityComms have been quite outstanding. Vicky and her team have built an organisation that is respected, influential and loved by its members and that has grown in both size and stature over the past six years.

“She can be truly proud that the organisation is delivering on its promise to improve standards and champion the role of communications in the charity sector. Everyone connected with CharityComms and the trustees would like to thank Vicky for all she has done and we wish her well in her new challenge.”
