ACEVO's response to YouGov's findings on trust in charities.
The charity leaders’ network ACEVO has welcomed the latest information on the public’s views on charities.
Commenting on the findings ACEVO’s Director of Public Policy Asheem Singh said:
“Charities remain cherished. Despite the seemingly relentless difficulties that the sector has experienced in recent months, there is an enduring resilience to ‘brand charity.’ 66 per cent of the public continue to trust charities to improve people’s lives, a figure which has held firm over the survey period.
“It is also encouraging to see that that the public is beginning to engage with solutions to some of those difficulties. We welcome the public’s desire to see additional support for charity trustees and an enhanced support role for the regulator, the charity commission.
“Building and maintaining public trust is an ongoing task. Charities of all shapes and sizes are working overtime with government and the public to improve the things they can do better. We must continue to strive not only to demonstrate the good we are doing on the ground, but also to explain the real and substantial reforms we are making to our back offices in order to provide the best possible services for the people we care for – people who otherwise would be left on the line.”
