Our response to the recent announcement on dormant assets.
Following the final report of the Independent Commission on Dormant Assets, and the subsequent announcement that the Office for Civil Society would consult on how to use these funds, ACEVO and other sector bodies have issued the following statement:
We welcome this announcement that there is potentially up to £2bn to invest in good causes and social change. This comes at a critical time for our sector given the challenges that we face.
It is important that any decision on how these funds are used involves consultation with civil society and social enterprises, which are on the frontline in communities across the country. We believe that the best way to achieve a better society is through stronger charities, voluntary organisations and social enterprises. CFG has been working with other partners including ACEVO, NCVO, Locality, Institute of Fundraising, NAVCA, Small Charities Coalition, Voice for Change England and Social Enterprise UK to see how we can deliver that.
As a group we have already met several times to discuss how government can support civil society organisations and social enterprises to build a better society including through improved collaboration, boosting skills, particularly digital skills, and growing community assets.
It is the group’s intention to launch a formal Task Force to engage with the whole sector on what the priorities for the future distribution of these funds should be. We also hope to meet with the Minister for Civil Society soon to discuss our proposals.
