Introduction

In our seventh generation of family control, Rothschild Private Wealth remains a stable and secure home for a charity’s investments, in an environment of ever increasing consolidation in the financial services industry.

We have a distinctive and differentiated investment approach that aims to meet a charity’s long-term spending needs as well as preserving and growing its portfolio in real terms.

By combining assets in the way we do, we have historically delivered inflation-beating returns whilst protecting against inevitable challenges on the investment road. This approach helps charity trustees to plan for the future.

At Rothschild Private Wealth, we buy assets for our charity clients; we aren’t in the business of selling products to them.

We are pleased with the significant growth of our charity assets under management over the last few years and the increasing number of enquiries from trustees who value our approach, and the advice given by our dedicated and experienced charities team.

Today we manage close to £1 billion for UK registered charities.

Our charity clients have a wide range of backgrounds – from education, health, military and the arts to livery companies and religious groups. This gives us a good understanding of the diverse range of needs and challenges faced by charities across the UK.

Objective guidance

Most investment managers claim to offer unbiased advice. Unfortunately, the reality rarely lives up to the promise. At Rothschild Private Wealth, we believe we are different, with a culture and heritage that align our interests with those of our charity clients. We have been in business for over 200 years and seek to build relationships that last for generations. Because we are family-controlled and independent, we have the freedom to work with the world’s best fund managers and investment houses. This allows us both to make decisions impartially and to focus on generating the best returns, driven solely by what is in our clients’ interests.

Stability

Rothschild Private Wealth is a safe and secure home for a charity’s assets. Our family ownership frees us from the distractions that come with a volatile share price or corporate takeovers. Rothschild Private Wealth is well capitalised and undertakes no risky trading activities.

Strong conviction

Our starting point is to preserve capital in real terms. This is central to our philosophy and it is what we do best.

What’s more, we never lose sight of things that are essential, such as avoiding permanent capital loss.

We insist on rigorous analysis and seek never to over-pay for individual securities, basing our major

decisions on objective measures of valuation.

We invest with conviction. In an industry dominated by short-term market movements, we stand apart. Our innovative approach goes beyond traditional asset allocation, as we believe this conventional approach masks the true risks within portfolios.

This approach helps us to protect clients’ capital during volatile markets, smoothing returns and dampening risk across the market cycle.

Investment Management for Charities

No two charities have exactly the same requirements. We have the scale, resources and intellectual capital to deliver, while still providing a personal service, for every charity client we work with.

Before making recommendations, we always begin with a detailed discussion of trustees’ objectives,

preferences and constraints: we ensure that we completely understand your risk tolerance and return aspirations, as well as your time horizon, liquidity needs and ethical considerations.

For most charities, a dependable income is particularly important. We aim to ensure that income

needs are met, without taking excessive risks in the investment portfolio or compromising long-term capital growth.

Specialist charities team

Every client is served by our dedicated charities team, with named individual’s taking responsibility for everything from investment strategy to account administration. In addition, our flat organisational structure means that trustees receive individual time and attention from senior specialists and experts from across the firm.

Rothschild and philanthropy

Wherever they have settled, the Rothschild family have sought to play their part in the life of their community.

In this, they are building on traditions of social concern and charity begun by Mayer Amschel Rothschild, the founder of the Rothschild family. Today, a wide range of Rothschild foundations operate in fields

as diverse as medical science, education, housing and the arts. In many of these areas, Rothschild initiatives have provided models for innovative philanthropy and best practice, helping to shape public policy.
