Introduction to mentoring

This interactive workshop is an introduction to mentoring for those who have signed up to be an ACEVO mentor or are interested in doing so.

The session will offer a mixture of information, sharing and practice with peers. We aim for the session to be engaging, participatory and a peer-learning experience. It is designed and delivered by Tom Andrews and Debbie Fisher.

Topics include:

• what is mentoring?
• contracting 
• our mentoring approach: presence, inquiry, experience
• breakout practice (in pairs and trios) 
• Q and A

Debbie Fisher is a leadership coach and facilitator with deep experience of supporting leaders across sectors. She specialises in helping leaders to coach, mentor and lead change, including running the BBC’s mentoring training programme. Prior to working in leadership development, Debbie led change across organisations in consulting roles and in the Civil Service, House of Commons, and Ofcom.

Tom Andrews is the senior support advisor at ACEVO. He is a qualified transformational coach and counsellor. Prior to his work supporting leaders, he was the founder and CEO of two pioneering charities over 25 years, focusing on empathy, creativity and kindness.

Tom joined ACEVO in October 2019 and is a qualified coach and counsellor. Tom works alongside Jenny to help members through mentoring, advice and one-to-one support. 

He is the founder – and ex-CEO – of two pioneering charities: Music for Change (intercultural understanding through music participation) and People United (exploring how creativity can grow kindness and social change). Most recently he has worked as a freelance coach, facilitator and mentor, supporting charity leaders.
