Everyone should have access to high-quality coaching

Coach Advancement by Tracy Sinclair has many ambitions, one of them being to use coaching for the greater good and to promote coaching for social impact. Read the blog below to find out more.

Why should access to great coaching be limited to those with substantial financial resources? How can we make coaching more available and affordable to leaders of charities and not-for-profit organisations

These were questions that Coach Advancement addressed in creating Coaching with Conscience (CWC) to have a wider and deeper impact on those who dedicate their lives to supporting others.

CWC would like to offer ACEVO members access to its affordable coaching packages. Here are just a few of the diverse challenges that coaching can address:

  • How to work better/smarter now and in the future
  • How to manage energy, workload and priorities
  • How to build good working relationships with colleagues who are very different
  • How to develop team members who have different needs
  • How to develop leadership skills and where to focus for the future

The power and benefits of being coached by one of our CWC coaches are equally broad and can include:

  • Greater self-awareness and awareness of others; better working relationships
  • Increased productivity and motivation
  • Steps forward to overcome long-standing blocks to progress
  • Increased self-esteem and confidence to pursue personal development plans
  • Greater focus and clarity

CWC coaches work with individuals as thinking partners to clarify what they want to do differently or change or have a sounding board to validate or challenge their thinking. They:

  • Offer confidential space and time to work through professional or personal goals with purpose and develop the confidence to pursue them
  • Share their observations and offer questions to help clients become more reflective
  • Support clients in expanding their options and possibilities for the way forward
  • Partner with clients to transform learning and insights into action

How CWC can help ACEVO members

In our experience, leaders of charities and not-for-profits are passionate about their work and making a difference but often forget to look after themselves or see their needs as important as those of others. In this case, coaching can help individuals develop a different perspective on work/life demands and place self-care higher on the agenda, with tools to support them in the process of setting boundaries, reviewing capacity, delegating to others where possible, being able to ask for help and being kinder to themselves. Paying attention to sleep, exercise and diet are all important for well-being and being able to manage energy, not time can open up new possibilities for dealing with feelings of overwhelm. The more people are equipped to look after themselves, the better position they will be in to support others.

A really interesting question that leaders can ask themselves is “Why should anyone be led by you?”. This question was posed by Rob Goffee and Gareth Jones in a Harvard Business Review article and in their subsequent book. It’s a useful prompt to stimulate a coaching conversation on where leadership skills are strong and where further development may be required. It challenges leaders to reflect on who they are as leaders and what kind of leaders they want to become by exploring how they create a sense of purpose and belonging for people, how they remain authentic, recognise the contributions of their teams and inspire them.

About CWC

Since 2019 CWC has developed a number of collaborative partnerships, including with MIND, the British Paralympic Association (BPA), Working Families and The Access Project. Summaries of our most recent case studies are available on our website.

CWC has provided more than 900 hours of social impact coaching through more than 200 coaching packages. Being able to provide high quality coaching is one of the pillars of the CWC offering. We specify that alumni of Coach Advancement must be members of the International Coaching Federation (ICF) and abide by its code of ethics, have professional indemnity insurance in place to operate as an independent coach, hold an ICF credential or be working towards submission with a minimum of 40 hours client work and attends supervision.

As you can see, we are passionate about offering charity and not-for-profit staff the opportunity to explore and develop their potential via CWC coaching packages. The latest ICF Global Coaching Study published that average hourly corporate coaching rates in the UK are around £220 per hour. Coaching with Conscience operates a fee scale from pro bono up to £50 per hour based on available resources.
If you are thinking about support or development for your team and wider staff, and believe that coaching could be of value, please contact Lisa Young as we would love to begin a conversation about how we can partner with you.
