Charity campaigning is not a new phenomenon. Charities have been at the forefront of the movement for social change for hundreds of years; from the campaign to end slavery to the introduction of the smoking ban. Despite this charities have been repeatedly publicly criticised for ‘meddling in politics’. This report calls for charities reclaim ‘campaigning’, ‘advocacy’ and ‘lobbying’ as positive and distinct words which are necessary to enabling charities to achieve their purpose.
