SMK campaigner and changemaker survey 2025 results are out

Amid the toughest conditions in a decade, something remarkable is happening.

SMK’s new report, Hope In Collaboration, reveals that campaigners across the UK are responding to rising threats with even stronger collaboration, compassion, and hope.

This year’s findings show:
– Over half of campaigners achieved a breakthrough in 2025
– 93% want to collaborate more
-100% believe civil society campaigning is legitimate — and needed

Hope isn’t naïve. It’s strategic. And it’s how change will happen in 2026. Explore the findings.

Strategy Clinic Series: Engaging power without losing your integrity

With local elections approaching, many in civil society are talking about engaging political power as if it’s inevitable, without fully considering what that engagement really means or the risks it carries. Too often, the focus is on access and influence rather than impact, legitimacy, and who bears the cost of so-called “pragmatic” decisions. Engagement without clear principles can undermine trust and integrity. That’s why New Ways is hosting a strategy clinic on 6 May, exploring how to engage with power thoughtfully, set boundaries, assess risk beyond reputation, and protect your organisation and communities.

Creating places for everyone: Supporting place-based and community-led racial justice

You can’t have social justice without racial justice. Places can only thrive when every group within them thrives. This report and action plan by Locality explains how social infrastructure created by and for racialised communities is crucial for this. As are strong, representative, and inclusive community “anchor” organisations that bring groups together within their neighbourhoods.

Shape the future of digital in charities

The Charity Digital Skills Report 2026 survey is open, and CEO voices matter. Last year’s findings were striking: 64% of charities wanted their CEO to develop a clearer digital vision, over a third rated their CEO’s AI skills as poor, and fewer than half had a digital strategy in place.

This annual survey is the sector’s most established barometer of digital progress. Your response helps shape the funding, training and guidance available to charities across the UK. It takes around 20 minutes, and registered charities can enter a draw for £300 unrestricted funding. Take the survey now.
