Rising demand, constrained resources and growing organisational pressures are testing even the most experienced leaders – all while traditional, hierarchical models of leadership continue to dominate public life.
At the same time, many leaders across civil society are questioning whether “heroic” leadership models truly serve our organisations, our people or our communities. Rooted in power imbalances and reinforced by patriarchal systems, these approaches can limit collaboration, suppress marginalised voices and create barriers to meaningful change.
Despite these challenges, many civil society leaders are actively embracing more collaborative, values-led approaches to leadership, demonstrating that another way is possible.
Across two connected sessions (each of which can also be attended as a standalone event – the second event will be advertised shortly), ACEVO is proud to partner with Caplor Horizons to explore how leaders can transition towards more collaborative, inclusive and sustainable ways of working. Grounded in a feminist and antiracist vision, these sessions will offer practical tools, honest reflection and actionable insight for leaders committed to doing things differently.
From heroic to collaborative leadership will explore what it means to lead collaboratively in today’s environment, introducing Caplor Horizons’ own twelve essential elements about transforming leadership and the values that underpin them. Through facilitated discussion, individual reflection, interactive exercises and small-group breakout conversations, participants will have the opportunity to explore how collaborative leadership can be applied in practice within their own organisations and contexts.
